Acupuncture works by boosting your body's natural ability to heal itself. This is achieved by placing fine needles into acupoints along meridians in your body.
Traditional Chinese Acupuncture requires up to three years of Chinese medicine training, as well as additional postgraduate studies. I use a gentle technique, with ultra-fine needles and shallow insertion, which is painless even if you are sensitive.
I have treated clients who have experienced:
- Stress and insomnia
- Infertility and IVF
- Back, neck and knee pains
- Shoulder problems
- Digestive issues
- Chronic fatigue
Supporting Therapies: Cupping & Chinese Tuina Bodywork
Depending on your reasons for coming to see me, I may suggest additional therapies to support your acupuncture treatment. Cupping therapy and Chinese tuina body work can help to relieve deeper pain and imbalances.
Cupping therapy is a relaxing treatment where I use glass or plastic 'jars' in order to create a deep vacuum of pressure to release deep pain in your tissue or muscles.
Tuina is a traditional form of Chinese Medical Massage incorporating acupressure techniques, deep tissue bodywork, stretching and manipulations.
The first visit will last for an hour and will involve a consultation, a traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and an initial treatment.
If you have chronic, long-standing or multiple health issues, I may recommend a short course of regular treatments to help kick-start the body's own natural healing ability. Less frequent top-up sessions will help to maintain these improvements.
You will normally feel a difference after the first few treatments and changes in symptoms or pain reduction will normally be felt within four to six treatments for chronic problems. Lasting improvements for difficult issues can take a few more sessions.
Medical Insurance for Acupuncture
Most major health insurance providers, including Medicash and Simply Health, will reimburse you for the cost of your acupuncture treatment. Please check with your insurance company to ensure that they recognise practitioners who are registered with The Acupuncture Society or The British Register of Complementary Practitioners before starting treatment. At the end of each treatment I will give you a receipt that you can forward to your insurer in order to be reimbursed for the cost of your treatment.
Other small insurers who cover acupuncture by the Acupuncture Society and BRCP members are:
Medisure (requires consultant referral)
Sovereign Health Care
HSF Health Plan
